The year 2021 marks 100 years since the momentous discovery of insulin in 1921, which marked a turning point in care for those with diabetes. Over the past century, better health outcomes for people living with diabetes have been incrementally achieved. However, despite the wishes of the discoverers of insulin, access to insulin and associated devices, and diabetes care more broadly, remains limited in many countries today. This report describes the current situation regarding access to insulin and associated devices. It seeks to understand the barriers to access and proposes actions to address them.
